Wir möchten Sie zu Beginn des Artikels zu einer kurzen Übung einladen. Setzen Sie sich dafür aufrecht und in einer bequemen Haltung hin und legen Sie Ihre Hände auf ihre Oberschenkel. Ihre Ellbogen sind entspannt. Nehmen Sie ihren Atem wahr und auch ihr Gewicht, wie es vom Boden und vom Stuhl getragen wird. Dann streichen Sie mit Ihrer rechten Hand und ganzer Beteiligung dreimal sanft und zugleich bestimmt von ihrer linken Schulter über ihren Oberarm, Unterarm, ihre Hand und über die Finger aus. Wiederholen Sie das Streichen nun mit der linken Hand auf der anderen Körperseite und spüren Sie anschließend die Wirkung der Übung. Recently I took a few days off, and was looking forward to having some time to myself, and time for introspection to balance the outer demands of everyday life in the city.
I was standing in the kitchen. It was apparent that most of the day would be spent in cooking and getting the house ready for guests. There was a lot of resistance that manifested as tension in the body—this was not what I had envisioned! I saw there was irritation towards the people around me and it was clear I was not contributing to the atmosphere in a positive way. I was standing in front of the stove stirring the pot cooking rice pudding. The movement of stirring reminded me to connect to the body. I saw that the moment before, I had been completely caught up in thoughts and emotional reactions to what was going on in my head and not at all participating in what I was doing. As I continued to stir the pot, the aliveness of being present with this simple activity was nurturing. Then I was present in myself, and from that taste of presence, I was able to relate to the people around me more constructively. When I was 8 years old I remember standing in the hallway outside my classroom at Thousand Oaks School. My classmate Evie, who was much younger and smaller than me, was crying. Sharon, another second grader, had uninvited Evie to her birthday party as a result of something that happened on the playground during recess. Evie, distraught, spoke tearfully between gasps, wondering what she had done to deserve this dismissal. I stood there leaning in, earnestly trying to offer insight and comfort. I felt uncomfortable, out of my depth, but Sharon was my best friend that day so maybe I could help. The thing I don’t remember is if I did help. This was my first counseling session.
